Fort Knox Self Storage was established in 1987 and was one of the first in Australia with this new concept of self storing for all those things you want to keep but you don’t have the space to store.
The old wool store on Beach Street in Fremantle was secured to house the facilities where because of its size and the number of floors it was perfect to design and install the initial 800 fully secured self-contained units in various sizes on the ground floor.
The top floor was perfect to store cars, boats and caravans, as it had an entrance off Queen Victoria Street.
It was Fort Knox Self Storage in Perth that invented the catch phrase You Store it. You lock it. You keep the key. The concept caught on very quickly and within months it was filling very quickly and Fort Knox Self Storage was becoming a household name in Perth, Western Australia.
The previous owner had progressively developed the site into apartments, which meant Fort Knox Self Storage had to move because the area that housed the units was needed for development.
The new owners of Fort Knox Self Storage have premises in O’Connor only 8 minutes from Fremantle, which more than satisfies future storage requirements. The new premises, far superior to the storage facility in Fremantle offers permanent, secure, storage in a clean and dust free building all under one roof.
One of the major benefits throughout the years of change has been the stability of the management staff, who have been with the original Fort Knox facility since opening and are still with the company today.
